In memory of Roland Schlott

It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Roland Schlott, Humanitarian Director of CBM Christian Blind Mission, who passed away on 1 June 2026 following a long and serious illness.

Between 2020 and 2025, Roland Schlott had a profound influence on CBM’s inclusive humanitarian work, developing it further with great dedication and strategic foresight. It was not least through his efforts that a dedicated humanitarian department was established within CBM to strengthen the organisation’s work in crisis and disaster situations in the long term.

With great professional expertise, a keen understanding of complex interrelationships and tireless personal commitment, he played a key role in building up and significantly advancing CBM’s humanitarian work. His actions were always guided by a consistent focus on the needs of people affected by crises, disasters and conflicts, and by the aim of achieving the most sustainable impact possible through effective aid projects and strong partnerships. Alleviating suffering and strengthening local and international aid structures were central guiding principles of his work.

Roland was a reliable and astute partner – both within CBM and far beyond – and at the same time a person of great integrity, deep compassion and remarkable warmth. Even during his serious illness, he maintained an impressive strength and never lost his sense of humour, which touched many of us deeply. During this time, and in his work, he drew strength from his deep roots in his Christian faith.

We will remember him not only as a valued colleague, but also as a good friend and a wonderful person.

Our thoughts are with his husband Erwin and all those close to him during these difficult days.

We bid him farewell with great gratitude – knowing that he made an important contribution to improving our world during his lifetime.
