26.03.2015 Strong women address gender balance in UN committee

CBM

Yesterday the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities elected a new bureau.  The bureau made up of the Chairperson, three Vice chairpersons and a Rapporteur.

Maria Soledad Cisternas Reyes continues as the Chairperson.  Theresia Degener, Diane Kingston and Silvia Quan Chang form the Vice Chair persons trio and Martin Babu continues as Rapporteur.

The new bureau who are tasked with making key decisions on the content, direction and representation of the Committee, both during and between sessions, is dominated by strong women.  This provides a welcome gender balance to the Committee itself, which has 12 male members and 6 female members.
