05.09.2016 Crossing the finishing line in Geneva

CBM

The 16th Session of the UN CRPD Committee has finished in Geneva.

There are two excellent summaries, one of the closing session, written by the United Nations.  As it was my final session of my 4-year term, my dear mum and dad, brother and nephew were also in the audience! My goodbye is here, with my wonderful husband/Personal Assistant by my side.

There is also summary of the whole 16th session written by the International Disability Alliance, which you can read here.

Both summaries have hyperlinks to content and documents.  The key recommendations for each country reviewed are here.

My personal highlights were the adoption of the General Comment (state guidance) on women and girls with disabilities, and the call to action for gender parity on international tribunals and monitoring bodies – the Gqual campaign.

We ended on a high note, literally, with a musical performance by Dame Evelyn Glennie, to mark the 10th anniversary of the CRPD.
