On February 24 and 25, 2016, a strategic meeting of key stakeholders took place in Guatemala City, to agree on the way forward for Ear and Hearing Care (EHC) at national level.

Representatives from several Governmental agencies, WHO-PAHO, National Committee for Persons with Disability (CONADI for its initials in Spanish), DPOs, civil society and NGOs discussed and agreed to establish the “National Network for Hearing of Guatemala” (Red Nacional de la Audición de Guatemala).

This initiative was financed by the International Office of CBM, coordinated with the Regional Office of CBM for Latin America and the Caribbean and organized by local CBM partner in Guatemala Sonrisas Que Escuchan, led by CBM EHC advisor Patricia Castellanos, with the support of EHC global advisor Diego Santana. Regional CBR advisor Gonna Rota participated in this event.

Endorsement for the National Network for Hearing comes from the Vice-Presidency of the Government and will be promoted by the Ministry of Health with the support of three other Ministries, Education, Development and Environment, overseen by the CONADI and the PAHO-WHO office in Guatemala.
